1.1 Background of the Study
The proliferation of fake drugs poses a significant threat to public health, leading to severe health complications and loss of lives. In Gwagwalada Local Government Area (LGA), Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Abuja, efforts to combat the menace of fake drugs require robust public awareness initiatives. Public relations (PR) plays a vital role in sensitizing communities about the dangers of counterfeit drugs, leveraging media campaigns, stakeholder engagement, and community outreach programs. According to Eze and Adebayo (2024), effective PR strategies can enhance public awareness, encourage compliance with regulatory measures, and foster collective action against fake drugs. This study explores the role of PR in addressing the issue of fake drugs in Gwagwalada LGA.
1.2 Statement of the Problem
Despite regulatory efforts, the prevalence of fake drugs in Gwagwalada LGA remains high, fueled by low awareness, weak enforcement, and limited community engagement. PR campaigns have been launched to address these challenges, but their effectiveness in sensitizing communities has not been thoroughly evaluated.
